Yesterday I was watching the Waste Management Open from Phoenix. (Remember when we had the Bob Hope and the Andy Williams? Now we have tournaments named after trash disposal companies.) A young rookie, Spence Levin was buring up the course -literally. He made some great shots, pulled 6 strokes ahead of the pack, so the camera began to follow his every move - unfortunately.
Late in the afternoon they showed Spencer Levin walking down the fairway to his next shot. What a surprise when he lit up a cigarette and began smoking it while walking. No, it's not like cheating multiple times on your wife, putting your children at risk. It's also not as bad as Arjan Atwal driving drunk a few years ago and getting into an accident. But smoking on the golf course?
Okay, maybe I'm old fashioned. But I was outraged! Even President Obama doesn't smoke on camera. We all know he does it, but don't show our kids that smoking is ok. After all, if you . become President, how bad could it be. And even a world class athlete like Spencer Levin smokes.
How about outlawing smoking on the golf course. I would be all for it. And by the way, Spencer, there are lots of young kids watching you. What are you thinking?
