Private golf clubs are one of the last bastions of the past mid-.century. Remember when people dressed to the nines to go to the theater? Now you see everything from long dresses to hoodies. Sure, some people in their 80s and 90s still want to be dressed all the time.
I remember when my mom moved from Palm Springs to coastal San Diego and said, "Doesn't anyone dress here?" No. People don't wear sleeves of bling at the beach. Sleeves of tatoos are more current.
Even many well dressed Manhattanites wear suits, white shirts with open collar and no tie. Life is not at stuffy as it used to be - thank goodness.
There is a time and place for being dressed just right. Outdoors on a beautiful green golf course should not be one of the venues. As long as a golfer is wearing clean clothes, what's the difference if the shorts are cargos or bermudas, the shirts with or without collars.
Come on, Caddyshack people. Step into the 21st century. It's a lot more fun
